Non Domestic BER Assessor - SBEM Training

Course

The new energy regulations bring an immediate need for industry professionals to achieve competence in the operation of the new National Energy Assessment Procedure (NEAP) and chosen software tool.

This blended training programme combines live classroom and online learning tutorials to enable construction professionals to training this important subject and become a registered assessor for commercial buildings.

This training course is an 18 hour blended study programme consisting of:

  • Classroom tutorials (1 day) at Engineers Ireland.
  • Software operations training (includes online ‘live’ attendance option).
  • Online software simulations for reference and practice.
  • Example energy assessments for building types.
  • Assignments & feedback.
  • Active question and answer discussion forums with expert moderation.

The programme runs over a 4 week period and the online training consists of live online seminars, tutorials and tutor support for participants right through to completion of the exam for non-domestic assessor registration. As preparation for this exam candidates are guided through completion of 3 assignments that map to the national exam format.

    Overview

The course provides candidates with the theory and operational skills for applying the NEAP methodoloogy and software application to evaluate new and existing buildings for Buildings Regulations Part L compliance and energy assessment rating.

    Objectives

On completion of the course candidates will have a full understanding of SBEM as implemented in the Irish National calculation methodology (NEAP) and will:

    • Be able to operate the SBEM software application (iSBEM or IES,Virtual Environment>) to produce BER
certificates for new and existing commercial buildings.
    • Understand the Energy Performance Building Directive as it has applied to Ireland
    • Prepared to successfully attempt the assessor exam (theory & software practicals)

    Prerequisites

Candidates should have very good pc literacy skills and ideally be familiar with operating software applications to support engineering projects. A broadband connection with a good specification of PC or laptop is required to take the training. Your internet browser should be MicroSoft Internet Explorer 6+.
