Energy Assessment Training

Domestic\All Dwellings

Our domestic BER training is approved for CPD by Engineers Ireland and combines classroom attendance (2 days) with our online tutor and training support service.

 

Day 1 covers the following:

  • Background to objectives and legislation for building energy rating procedures.
  • Introduction to building regulations.
  • Explanation and calculation of U values for thermal behviour of walls, roofs, floors and windows.
  • Introduction to DEAP software and inputting sample energy assessment data.

On completion of Day 1 candidates will have received the essential grounding to study and attempt the first two course assignments covering U values & use of the DEAP software. These assignments are typically required to be complete in a week to 10 days. Candidates receive online training and tutor support to help them become comfortable with U values & working with the DEAP software. Our tutor support includes one to one sessions with candidates - these are conducted online.

 

Day 2 covers the following:

  • Survey methodology and evidence gathering.
  • Practical survey techniques.
  • Identifying key building data including age band, types of heating system.
  • Site visit for an actual house survey and energy rating assessment.
  • Submitting BER assessments to SEI.
  • Health & Safety requirements.

On completion of Day 2 candidates are trained to conduct actual house surveys, accurately and in a a safe manner. They are required to complete an actual building energy rating for the surveyed house as well complete a survey and assessment of house they have chosen themselves.

 

After completion of these assignments candidates go into 'study mode' for the course exam. A score of 70% is required accross assignments and the exam to achieve the required standard for SEI registration as an assessor. On line training support and tutoring is provided right through the assignment and study stages.

 

Candidates retain access to our online training and support service for 12 months from enrolment and as such will receive additional support right through to completion of the the national exam. All assessors are required to take and pass the national exam before the end of 2009.

 

Our training support site and service also includes the following:

  • Access to expertise on technical and administraive issues associated with conducting assessments.
  • Solutions to common problems encountered by energy assessors as wellas advice on the treatment of not so common energy system configurations.
  • Specific national exam preparation excercises and live training sessions (online)
  • Online training resources and refresher tutorials that map fully to the SEI defined training programme and national exam.

Energy Assessment Training

Non-Domestic

To become an energy assessor candidates must fulfill one of the following 2 options:

 

Option 1

  • Hold a level 8 qualification ( 4 year degree) in an engineering related discipline.
  • Membership of one of the named professional institution - Engineers Ireland, CIBSE, RIAI, SCS
  • Pass an SEI approved national exam to display competence in the assessment procedure and software tool. (iSBEM).

Option 2

  • Be a  member of a UK based accreditaton scheme at level 4 where SBEM can be used.

Option 1 training programme.

Our BER Assessor & Part L using SBEM course provides you with the essential knowledge and practice using the SBEM method and iSBEM application to achieve a pass in the national exam.

 

Option 2 training programme.

Our BER Assessor using SBEM programme provides you with the essential software skills to achieve the appropriate competency for recognition by a UK accredited scheme using a choice of assessment tools - IES or iSBEM.

 

NOTES:

- Perspective assessors taking this program will need to complete the Low Carbon assessor programme to complete their registraton on an accredited UK scheme with CIBSE.

- This option also provides IES certification using SBEM.

- Candidates completing the programme will qualify as assessors for both UK & Ireland.
